MEDICARE REBATE AND PRIVATE HEALTH COVER MAY BE AVAILABLE
FEES AND REFERRALS
The fee for a 1-hour appointment with a Registered Psychologist is $160 and with a Clinical Psychologist it is $200. With a Mental Health Care Plan after the Medicare rebate, cost to you is about $75. The current Medicare rebates are $84.80 for a Registered Psychologist and $124.50 for a Clinical Psychologist. Speak to our friendly receptionists for more information about these.
Medicare rebates are only claimable with both a referral and the relevant General Practitioner (GP) mental health care plan in place. Speak to your GP about your suitability. Please advise your GP’s practice when booking in that you would like to be reviewed for a potential mental health care plan, as a longer appointment time with your GP is usually required.
A referral is not necessary to see a Psychologist. However a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) is required to be eligible for any Medicare rebates and if you are seeing a Psychologist under an insurance claim e.g. WorkCover. Some insurers require pre-approval so please check with your insurer.
Most private health funds cover psychologist visits. Check with your health fund whether your plan includes Psychology. Some important questions to ask are: What is the rebate per session? How many sessions will be eligible for rebate?
